World Cup 2026: Where to Watch — I Found the Best Viewing Experiences in Every Host City
The World Cup 2026 will have 3.5 million tickets available.
That sounds like a lot. Until you realize there are 8 billion people on Earth and most of them want to go.
If you didn't get tickets — or you got tickets for one match and want to watch the rest somewhere special — I've done the scouting for you.
I visited every host city and found the best places to watch matches. These aren't generic sports bars. These are experiences.
The Fan Zones (Free and Epic)
MetLife Fan Fest — New York/New Jersey
Location: Times Square (Manhattan)
Capacity: 20,000
The biggest fan zone in the tournament. Giant screens in every direction. Stages with live music. Food trucks from every competing nation. Free entry.
When to go: Semi-Final day. Times Square will be absolute chaos. That's the point.
Discovery Green — Houston
Location: Downtown Houston
Capacity: 10,000
Houston's main park becomes a daily World Cup party. Air-conditioned tents (critical in June). Multiple screens. Beer gardens.
Zócalo — Mexico City
This is the one to beat. The Zócalo is the main square in Mexico City, and during the World Cup it becomes the world's largest viewing party. 50,000+ people. Screens as tall as buildings. Mariachi bands between matches.
When to go: Mexico's matches. The energy is indescribable.
The Rooftop Bars (Premium Vibes)
The Press Lounge — New York City
Hell's Kitchen rooftop with views of the Hudson. They set up a screen on match days. Cocktails are $22 and worth every penny. Reserve a table a month in advance.
Spire 73 — Los Angeles
The tallest open-air bar in the Western Hemisphere. 73 floors up. They show matches on a massive screen with downtown LA behind it. Best for evening matches.
Cantina La No. 20 — Mexico City
A rooftop in Roma Norte that shows matches on a courtyard wall. Great mezcal selection. Gets packed for Mexico matches — arrive 2 hours early.
The Private Suite Option (For Those Who Want VIP Without Stadium Prices)
Here's a secret: several host city hotels and venues are renting private suites with catering for match viewing.
Cost: $5,000–$20,000 per room depending on location and match significance.
I booked a private suite at a hotel near MetLife Stadium for the Final. Four friends, private room, dedicated server, massive screen. Total cost split four ways: $3,750 per person.
Compare that to $11,750+ per person for a stadium suite. Same vibe. Much cheaper.
Where to find them: Search "private watch party [city] World Cup 2026" or contact concierge services.
The Stadium Experience (Without a Ticket)
Even without a match ticket, you can experience match day atmosphere:
Tailgating at AT&T Stadium — Dallas
The parking lot at AT&T Stadium is legendary for tailgating. You don't need a ticket to join. Bring a grill, a cooler, and a flag for your team. Fans from every nation converge here.
BC Place Plaza — Vancouver
The plaza outside BC Place has a giant screen for match days, food trucks, and activities. It's free and open to everyone.
The Best Viewing Setup (If You're Staying Home)
- If you're not traveling to a host city, here's my recommended setup:
- TV: At least 65 inches
- Sound: Surround sound — the crowd noise matters
- Food: Cook the cuisine of the nation playing
- Company: At least 4 people who actually care about the match
I'm hosting a viewing party for the Final at my apartment in Brooklyn. 15 people. Projector on the wall. Asado-style grilling in the backyard. It's not MetLife, but it's close.
The Bottom Line
You don't need a stadium ticket to experience World Cup 2026. The fan zones, the bars, the hotel suites — the whole city becomes the stadium. Pick your city, pick your vibe, and be there.
